Overactive Bladder
Overactive bladder also known as OAB, causes a frequent and sudden urge to urinate that may be difficult to control. You may feel like you need to pass urine many times during day and night, and may also experience unintentional loss of urine (urge incontinence).
Causes
- 1. Many patients with Overactive bladder don’t have any cause. It is common in anxious and middle aged females.
- 2. Your doctor may advise you to keep BLADDER DIARY to understand your problem. He may suggest you to undergo urine examination, sonography, etc.
Symptoms
- 1. Urgency – feel a sudden urge to urinate which is difficult to withhold.
- 2. Frequency – Urinate frequently for more than 8 times in 24 hours.
- 3. Nocturia – need to pass urine in night for more than 4 times.
- 4. Incontinence – sometimes urine leaks in oab.
Treatment
- 1. Many patients suffering from OAB are treated by lifestyle modification, regulating fluid intake and some drugs like solifenacin, darifenacin, oxybutynin, etc.
- 2. Resistant cases of OAB, not responding to above line of treatment may need BOTOX injections in urinary bladder or very rarely surgery.
