Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) are common, especially in older men, and are most often caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) which results in benign prostatic enlargement (BPE) and bladder outlet obstruction (BOO).
Patients with severe LUTS unresponsive to pharmacological management and those with BPH complications are candidates for surgical therapy. Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) is still considered the “gold standard” in terms of efficacy. Nowadays prostate surgery is being performed by use of Bipolar, Laser technology also.
