Stress Urinary Incontinence ( SUI )

Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is a leakage of urine during physical activity or movement which increases abdominal pressure for example coughing, laughing, sneezing, exercises, heavy lifting, etc. It is mostly seen in females.

Causes

It is usually because of weak pelvic floor muscles, due to pregnancy and delivery. It is common in obese females.

Symptoms of Stress Urinary Incontinence

Urine leaks during

  • a. Cough or sneeze
  • b. Laugh
  • c. Bend over
  • c. Bend over
  • e. Have sex
  • f. Lift something heavy suddenly

Complications of SUI:

  • 1. Emotional distress
  • 2. Depression
  • 3. Anxiety
  • 4.Loss of interest in sex

Treatment

Urologist at Hitech Urology Centre will take your urinary history, examine you thoroughly, which may involve per vaginal examination. This will help doctor to understand associated overactive bladder symptoms (urgency).

Non – surgical treatment:

  • 1. Pelvic floor muscle exercises.
  • 2. Kegel exercises.
  • 3. Medicines as prescribed by urologist.

Surgical treatment – minimally invasive surgery in severe cases of SUI:

  • 1. TVT surgery
  • 2. TOT surgery
